In February 2011, after spending 5 years building a life coaching company from the ground up, my business partner decided that he’d had enough and was moving on to greener pastures.
Normally, when a partner leaves a business, it’s not a huge problem. But when that partner takes all knowledge of how to register, build, maintain, promote, and monetize websites, that’s when it becomes an issue.
I had no idea how to register a domain name, let alone install a content management system, set up and design the site, adjust functionality, and deal with problems, let alone set up hosting, upload content, and optimise the site for search engines.
So, that was the start of my journey.
Armed with no knowledge but a burning need to get this sorted, I set out to learn how to build a website from scratch.
Since that time, I’ve built over 30 websites with different designs, on multiple hosting platforms, using hundreds of different widgets.
I’m not going to pretend that it was all smooth sailing.
There were many times I wanted to punch my screen thrown my laptop out the door but hopefully, by sharing my (mis)adventures with you, I can help you avoid some of those painful moments.
